Mr. Alexandersen has solid interdisciplinary theoretical, methodological and empirical competences within
environmental protection and rural/urban development. During the past years he has undertaken socio-economic and environmental studies. He has successfully completed feasibility studies, appraisals and reviews
for the European Commission, DANIDA, FAO and UNIDO.
Several of Mr. Alexandersen's assignments have focused on assessing environmental impacts and consequences of
proposed plans, programmes, strategies and projects. Recently, he has successfully completed a comprehensive
social and environmental impact assessment of a rural agricultural development project - Kasinthula small holder
sugar cane scheme in Malawi. The assessment covered an assessment of:
1. The current institutional and legislative framework;
2. Environmental impacts of sugar cane production, centralised furrow irrigation and processing of sugar
cane. The main environmental issues covered were air pollution, loss of flora and fauna, soil degradation
(including water logging, soil erosion, salinisation, sedimentation) water-borne and water-related diseases,
agrochemical pollution, water abstraction, waste, occupational safety and health conditions etc.;
3. Identify environmental indicators
4. socio-economic consequences of the proposed project with specific reference to land tenure, food and
livelihood security.
Through this project Mr. Alexandersen has gained profound knowledge about the EU environment and rural
development policies.
Within the field of environment, Mr. Alexandersen has further carried our EIA's of production facilities and demarcated production lines in Sri Lanka
and China, undertaken in-depth environmental planning studies in Thailand and assisted with expertise during a
review mission of a sustainable city project in Tanzania. Mr. Alexandersen possesses profound knowledge related to
environmental management and planning including functions and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in the
formal and informal management of the environment. He is capable of identifying basic environmental capacities
needed transversely to different political, cultural and stakeholder settings. One of Mr. Alexandersen�?�¢??s strong points
is his ability to undertake stakeholder analysis, identify roles and responsibilities and survey mutual interactions. He
is familiar with decentralisation aspects of environmental planning and management and has also insight in
environmental policy formulation and regulation, technology transfer and cleaner production.
