What I Do

Analysis of livelihoods, household food security, economic and environmental sustainability.

Evaluations and Appraisals, both economic and environmental.

Monitoring and evaluation systems, and field surveys.

Institutional strengthening and reform.

I have constantly promoted decentralisation of power and decision-making to the most local feasible level.

I have committed myself to policies and strategies that allow the private sector to flourish in the service of rural welfare. I have promoted regulatory, rather than executive government, and I have promoted the role of the NGOs as a counterbalance.

I am good on the interface between people and their environment, and its implications for field management and for policy.

Where I have worked:

Brazil, Bolivia,
Afghanistan, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea,
Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Zambia.
Spain, United Kingdom

Personal Qualities . . . . .

I believe in the power of the team, whether I am member or leader

I thrive in multi-cultural environments

I have strong analytical skills: I ask pertinent questions and I am imaginative but rigorous in the interpretation of data.

I am a good writer, a reasonable public speaker and I have a creative flare for programming training, workshops, etc.

In policy and strategy formulation, I can usually penetrate to the root of the issues, and identify ways to tackle them.
